Searching for depth at the guard spots, Pete Gillen, Tom Herrion and Walt
Fuller, who all attended the ABCD Camp, also found 6'3" combo guard
Jermaine Harper to their liking. Simply put, Harper was a scoring
machine, tallying double-figure totals in six of his eight games en route to an
average of 10.9 points per game. He moved fluidly without the ball and had
little trouble navigating his way through traffic for an open shot.
Harper isn't exactly your run-of-the-mill teenager off the court either.
Indigenous to Gardena, California, Harper bolted to the Blue Ridge School in
Dyke Virginia, to...get this...get away from girls.
"All my family is in the L.A. area, but I wanted to get away from all the
distractions and focus on my academics and basketball," Harper said. "I
want to go to a high Division I school, so it just made sense to me."
Those Friday nights spent sweating it out on the court rather than the town are paying dividends.
Virginia offered Harper a scholarship on his May 24th unofficial visit to Charlottesville, and the Cavs join
California-Berkeley as prohibitive favorites for the swingman.
