Played safety and shared time at tailback, wide receiver and tight end for Laney High School, school that produced Michael Jordan. Davis rushed for 900 yards, scored two TD's off kickoff returns and 5 more TD's receiving.
Coach's Comments (Gordon Walters):
"Willie is one of the hardest hitters I've ever coached. He's the 6th kid we've sent to the ACC in 3 years. Willie's a great young man. Coach Prince did a great job recruiting him. I was very impressed with the staff at the University of Virginia, as Willie was and his mother was. The academic reputation of Virginia speaks for itself. I'm happy Willie made his decision, and it certainly sounds like a firm commitment. I'm just tickled to death for him."
Player's Comments (Willie Davis):
"I like the coaches [at Virginia]. They're like an extended family - that's how they made me feel ... The reason for the early commitment was so that I can focus on my academics and focus on the upcoming football season. Virginia's a good academic school. This is a very solid commitment ... I'm going to try and stick with free safety, but I'll play wherever they want me - wherever I can help the team. I'm good on offense too, so if they need me there, I'll help them with that too."
Other Info:
"Speed is the name of Davis game. He’s been timed at 10.9 seconds in the 100-meter dash. Willie used that speed to rush for 1,200 yards at tailback last season. He also made 7 interceptions on defense and projects as a strong safety in college. Davis is the seventh player from Laney to commit to a Division I school in the last four years."
