Subject: Mikeysurf, not sure i follow your point...

The ACC has performed well (third behind SEC and big 10) in football tv
ratings. Since it's tv ratings that drive the tv contracts (not necessarily
success in bcs games...), a better deal could have, and should have
been struck. While there is room for improvement of course in
performance, i believe there is greater room for improvement in the
schools that you did NOT name.

I'm confused as to why, now multiple times in this thread, you continue
to fault the FL ACC schools and VT only....yet the other 9 schools get a
free pass. With all due respect, you seem to be very knowledgeable in
the conference history, but perhaps you're leaving out some significant
details. Number one, last time i checked VT came into the conference
(ACC) as a preseason prediction of 6th or 7th in 2004 and it was posited
that VT would never be able to compete in the acc...certainly not win a
championship. I'm sure i dont need to remind you that they won the
conference that year and nearly beat an undefeated auburn team in the
bcs bowl. They then went on to win several other acc championships
and contend for 2 others. I dont believe shortcomings of any ACC
perception can be blamed on VT. They have carried the conference. If
the argument is that the acc needs to win the big games, well then by
my count there are 11 other teams who could also step up.

On that same subject, FL St has won a conference champ and played
for another...while that may be below what would have been guessed
almost a decade ago, i would argue that they have carried their weight
as well with regard to winning and tv ratings. Wake has won as well,
BC has contended, clemson has won and contended for another. GT
has certainly been in the mix consistently. And while Miami hasn't won
or contended, they carry a ND-like following...meaning people either love
them or love to hate them, but either way, they bring a national tv draw
that helps to contribute to the third highest conference tv ratings. You
might notice a few schools i didn't mention with respect to tv ratings or
winning...some of those are basketball-strong schools and carry weight
with regards to tv ratings there, some aren't. My guess is you can
figure out which is which.

My simple point is that the ACC deserves a better contract than they
got, but if blame is to be placed, i would guess that like the revenue
sharing, it should be distributed a little more evenly, not just to the FL
schools and VT.
