at some point its going to make sense to hold the final four out
there. Texas has been a huge growth area for the sport, and hosting
the final four in Dallas is the obvious way for the the sport to take
the next step in that region. It could be a key for growing the sport
nationally. It seems close, but 2013 is five years away and Lax will
only continue to grow in Texas in that time.
It would be a mistake to assume that only curious locals will attend
it the final four is hosted in Dallas. There are a lot of lacrosse
players in Texas and I have to think most of them would find their way
to game if the NCAA ever came to texas. Its true you won't get the
same type of turnout from the UVA/JHU/Syracuse fan bases, but
sacrificing that for one year would be worth it in the long run for
the good of the sport in my opinion.
Plus it would be fair to the West/Mid-West teams to make everyone
travel for one year. Eventually (like say this year) Ohio State or
Notre Dame or Denver or Air Force is going to end up in the final
four. In five years Notre Dame and (especially) Ohio State could be
powerhouses.
Ultimately Its probably a long shot because of travel budget
constraints, but I think it would be really cool if executed properly.
