Well, I agree with gilbert's reasoning on WHY Dallas is being
considered. While it might be better to put the game in Chicago or
Denver, Texas has really grown its lacrosse fan base. I've seen the
sport really move along over the past 25 years. I played LAX in HS
and immediately went into the Air Force after graduation. In 1984, I
was stationed in San Antonio for about 13 weeks, then shipped to Fort
Worth. I stayed in Fort Worth for a couple of years, but have gone
back there many times over the years as my daughter lives there. So,
I've had a chance to see the sport grow there for 24 years. This past
summer, I saw lots of kids out with LAX sticks instead of footballs.
Even in 1984, there were lacrosse clubs in the area. I saw this also
in Wichita, KS from 1988-1990.
There's most definitely a growing interest in the sport that had taken
on roots more than two decades ago. Moving the Final Four to that
region would do a great deal for the sport. It would accelerate the
sport, thus creating more top athletes of the sport that would be
recruited from regional area colleges. This could jump start college
lacrosse programs in the states bordering Texas.
The one sad thing about lacrosse is that there aren't many men's
lacrosse programs that compete in D1A. Perhaps this is being
considered as a remedy. Oh, and we could have reevaluation Title IX
as well. Any moron can see that football should be omitted, or at
least revised to make more sense.
I don't know about you, but I'd love to see teams like Texas or Kansas
State competing in the Tourney. I'm getting sick of seeing Hopkins,
Cuse and Princeton all the time. Let's advance the sport, even if it
means many long time lacrosse fans from the traditional market will
have to sit at home for a year or two.
