paragraph may be a little overblown as I would consider this a
balanced team in terms of experience, and not necessarily young or old. Also, I thought we rushed some shots from the MF yesterday, and that the flaws in that were pretty well spaced among a number of players. Finally, as an aside, I think Shamel hit iron on three of his shots that count as not being on goal, which generally are better shots than those that are on goal but are easily saved. I don't recall a single off-goal shot that he took that was not backed up and ended with us still in possession. Generally, you want those long range shots to be of that ilk. My highlights from yesterday were: #1: Stanwick. Played with exceptional poise, his passing was pinpoint almost every time, and stayed right within the flow of things. #2: Thompson: Played really well with a great work rate. #3: Billings: Love his quick release. #4: Overall quickness and athleticism by the long stick D. #5: Huguely/Pomper: Both played well in reserve roles. Incompletes were Adam, Gaudet, and overall middie play. It will be interesting to see those areas develop over the first few weeks of the season. Altogether, a pretty good showing all around for game #1, and a beautiful day to sit on the hill and take in some springlike sunshine. |
