Subject: Vig did great things at Texas, this is definitely a "splashy" hire

And I agree, having your distance coach as the head coach is the way
to do things at Virginia, at least until the investment in facilities and
capital infrastructure can be made that will consistently bring in the top
sprinting and jumping recruits (of which there are many in the
Commonwealth that end up elsewhere). I'm hoping the throwing events
at Virginia will stay top-notch as they've been for over a decade now.
I was very concerned that Dunn didn't ascend to the top spot after
Randy left, and was thinking the only way to remedy the situation was
a big-name hire. Well, this was a big-name hire, one that I'm guessing
would only come if Vig was also promised a few things as far as
operational budgets and assistant coach budgets are concerned. I'd
love to get the inside scoop on the wheeling-and-dealing between CL
and both Dunn and Vig, because I can't imagine it would have been
much cheaper to pull Vig from Texas than to keep Dunn in VA where he
grew up. That said, Stanford is a huge career move for Dunn and I
congratulate him on the opportunity.
Should also mention, I'm glad CL and the Athletic Department moved
fast, XC practice is right around the corner. I also hope Vig asked for
and got some sort of commitment to a future indoor track facility. Build
it and they will come.
