I would add that port vs. starboard is important in selection, as is how
well they row. Obviously erg power is a good indicator or horsepower
and so plays a role in choosing a boat. The stern pair are usually some
of your better rowers in terms of controlling tempo and setting pace-- it's
not as easy as it looks to control the rate and to be "followable" vs. the
follower. The bow is narrower, so usually one of the smaller people in
the boat will be there.
As far as AA picks, the CRCA says it's based on coach nominations,
performance of Varsity 8, and erg scores. How the exact formula works
I don't know. Seems somewhat arbitrary but each of the girls honored
are great rowers and obviously had a tremendous season.
