Camp is faster than Cerbs, Glavich is likely faster than Karasek, Geiss.
would beat Luchsinger. Reed is a question mark. Considering how fast he was in high school, his career at UNC has been a disaster, but he still has the talent to occasionally drop a moster relay split (for what it's worth, he's split 42 multiple times before, Barrett hasn't yet) That group Virginia should beat, but given the variables of other events being swum, who knows. Better UNC not have a breaststroker at all. (side note: I wouldn't be surprised if Glavich pulled out a great 2fly and made the B final.) I haven't paid attention to the guys FSU got to the meet--can they form medleys? I agree the 400MR makes the most practical sense for UVA because of the day it falls, and the fact that most of Virginia's guys are better suited for 100s (Karasek is probably better at the 50). Multiple events really can be a big deal. Doubles performed at NCAAs are not common--exception being the 1back/1fly double (even the mighty Tom Shields flamed out in the 1fly/2free double). The difference there is that there is quite a bit more time between the 1fly/1back than there is the 1fly/2free. It's not just the quantity of max effort swims. There is a lot of pressure associated with each swim, and that wears athletes down. This isn't much like a USS meet. The way Virginia trains, they should be able to weather it as well as anyone, but guys definitely can get worn down (and slow down as a result). |
