ZURICH, Switzerland, March 18. A pair of Swiss national records
took a tumble on the final day of the Swiss National Championships held in Zurich. The meet took place in long course meters. David Karasek shot down the Swiss record in the men's 200 IM with 2:01.79 during prelims, before returning in the evening to win in 2:02.85. His preliminary time crushed the 2:03.91 set by Stephan Bachmann back in 2008. Karasek is now on his way back to the U.S. to compete for Virginia at the NCAA Division I Men's Championships this week. Elijah Stolz placed second in 2:06.90, while Yannick Kaser finished third in 2:07.11. excerpts re prior days evetns: Olympian Dominink Meichtry opened the session with a 1:48.87 to win the men's 200 free. Second place went to David Karasek with a 1:49.61 Meichtry, a finalist in the 200 freestyle at the 2008 Olympics, recently asked longtime girlfriend Jessica Hardy to marry him, and with her acceptance of the proposal, now prepares to represent Switzerland at the Olympics. He won the men's 400 free with a 3:51.07. Well back in second was David Karasek with a 3:54.63, and Jovan Mitrovic was third with a 3:56.88. |
