Press Release for Windermere Cup:
PRESS RELEASE Monday, April 30, 2012 May 5: Windermere Cup (Seattle, Washington) Charlottesville, VA: The University of Virginia Men’s Rowing Team will travel to Seattle, Washington this weekend to race in the 26th Annual Windermere Cup. The regatta is hosted by the University of Washington, last year’s Division I National Champions. UVa will compete in the premier event: the Men’s Windermere Cup. Besides Washington, the Hoos will also race the Argentinean national team, as well as Oregon State University. UVa is just the third club team ever to be invited to the event. The invitation comes in recognition of UVa having won the 2011 American Collegiate Rowing Association Championship (the national collegiate club-rowing championship), as well as for their outstanding performance at the Henley Royal Regatta, in England, in June 2011. The Windermere Cup is one of the largest regattas in rowing. The event annually draws up to 200,000 fans.
