I used to coach SB in Fla, and it was slowpitch in girls' SB until
around 1995 or so. It's hard for girls to adjust to fastpitch after playing slowpitch, and there were few people in Fla who knew how to coach fastpitch, especially the pitchers, who are key to the game. I don't know about the other Southern states, but I imagine it wasn't very different. California and Arizona have produced many of the top softball players for years, and I don't think that's gonna change for awhile. |
