Subject: Let's hope so, but I'm pessimistic. In the end, this likely plays out

Message:

like the Obama/Boehner "do something big" debt ceiling episode: lots
of talk; very little action. And then what action you do get is of the
hand-washing sort.

In the end, we'll need to have a President who has the courage to
follow the recommendations of a bipartisan debt (or tax or, better,
both) commission. Wow.

We know from history that's not Obama. I doubt that's Romney, unless
the wind is very favorable and his finger is wet on the serendipitous
side. Santorum? Maybe he has the courage for it. Indeed, I'm confident
he has the courage for it; I'm not confident that he has the fire in
his belly for it. Newt? Too busy being cute, though the idea of
drastically re-shaping the country's financial landscape might play
well to his ego.

In the end, IMO it will take a Christie, Breaux, or Moynihan. And only
one of them is still in politics.
