Subject: It's the great worldwide increase on the demand side for petroleum
Posted by: NJHoo on Thu Feb 23 2012 12:14:56 PM
Message:

Even though demand is decreasing in the US as the result of more
efficient vehicles, the growth in worldwide demand is increasing
steadily. There is no way we can isolate ourselves from the
worldwide demand, given the global economy. Increased production
from tar sands in Canada and US still has some major environmental
issues, as discussed in the attached. What will happen to these tar
sand areas as boreal forests are leveled and essentially turned into
waste lands. The demand for fresh water (about 4 barrels per gallon
of oil extracted) will have to be examined in light of the other human
needs for water.
