The idea is to help the formation of nonprofit insurance companies as
consumer operated plans. Less concerned about a corporate profit, these organizations will pressure the big insurance companies to compete -- not quite the full-fledged public option, but a start. Common Ground has a very solid board of directors and officers, like Robert De Vita, (Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare) and Michael Bolger, the retired president of the Medical College of Wisconsin. This loan is one way to help to test a new idea that might reap long term benefits. |
