But the fact is, marriage as we know it is not a creature of religion. So I
really don't see how that matters. Under the First Amendment no church that disagrees with gay marriage has to perform ceremonies for gay weddings, but when it comes to "marriage" (the state/federal legal status one gets when he/she is granted a marriage license) their practices are no longer relevant. |
