Subject: Soccer here vs Europe or South America is just like

Message:

basketball 20 years ago only inverse. Our kids grow up shooting hoops
on the playground, unsupervised play where kids explore their own
abilities, and learn their own moves. 20 years ago there were good
solid players coming out of European bbball, players who may have been
technically better than most of our kids, with precision, machine like
playing styles.
We produce Kobe, they produce Dirk.

Will our soccer evolve likewise? The problem is still the money. Great
young athletes will make more money being a journeyman in the NFL, the
NBA, or MLB, than they can be a star in the MLS. I still don't see
U.S. kids playing pick-up soccer games after school, except among
immigrants maybe. That in my opinion is what is necessary to solve
what you have observed. Until it is something kids do just for FUN, we
won't create the truly great players we need.
