the Hispanic/Latino community where I live. I think it may become more
common to see more of these kids (children of first generation
immigrants) on our national teams in the years to come.

one big problem, though, is that these immigrant families often don't
have the money to play club soccer, which is the de facto farm league
for high school players, which is the farm for college, which is the
farm for some national team players. I think the issue is getting the
young immigrant kids noticed and supported at an early age. Locally we
are trying to do Spanish language outreach to grow the club teams,
helping families without Internet access register for the league, and
offering registration discounts and fee waivers for poor families.
Still, I think there are a lot of good players who never enter the
organized soccer pipeline because they are poor and don't speak the
language.
