Subject: I'm not particularly interested in having a GLT debate with you.

As I said earlier, I support the use of GLT, though I do not have a
preference as to which technology is used. It was offered up only as an
example to you of a change in soccer that many people support, to
counter your suggestion that people are "emotionally attached to the
status quo." I also offered the example of the recent rule eliminating
backpasses to the keeper.

And the information about the NHL and NBA was offered to show that
MLS is gaining in popularity relative to those two sports. Both hockey
and basketball may well make more money than soccer, but that's not
the point. The point is that soccer is catching up. MLS is a 17-year old
league that has been expanding consistently and sustainably and is on
the verge of breaking into the Big 4 sports in the US in terms of
popularity. And *that* is offered only to counter your argument that
soccer needs rule changes (specifically, a change to the offside rule) in
order to become popular in the US.

So, to sum up:

(1) Soccer fans in the US aren't opposed to change in general; they're
opposed to your suggestion to eliminate the offside rule.*

(2) Soccer's popularity in the US is growing, which contradicts your
stated reason for suggesting a change to the offside rule.

(*Using the Sabre posters as a stand-in for the general public.)
