When, in reality, it's not. Switzerland, for example, is a much weaker team
than Spain in all areas except maybe goalkeeper (and I'd suggest they're weaker there, too, but the disparity is not as great). Forcing them to attack Spain would result in the Swiss getting crushed. That's not entertaining for anyone except fans of Spain. But by playing defensively in the opening round of Euro 2008, Switzerland managed to get a draw with Spain, which was almost like an upset. And it was a pretty entertaining game because it stayed close. |
