He may even have to play the qualies, which could be a good thing
since he needs matches. Aptos is the last Challenger before the US Open where he is in the main draw. His ATP protected ranking of #85 won't get him directly into the Rogers Cup, Cincy or even Winston Salem. He can use his protected ranking for his first 9 events (excluding WCs). Hopefully, the UVa connection with Flow in Winston will get him a WC there. He'll likely have to play more Challengers this fall since his PR likely won't get him in the 500 or 1000 level events during that time period. Plus, he may be able to manage it where the 9 ATP events last all the way through the entry into the French next year. |
