Subject: Ever see the movie "Absence of Malice" ?
Posted by: Clark on Thu Jun 21 2012 10:54:28 AM
Message:

One of the lines towards the end, in the newsroom:

Reporter: "Is that true?"
Sally Field: "No, but it's accurate."

The difference lies in whether the reader ends a story with a true
understanding. If someone read the recent story without having read the
story from six months ago, he would have no idea that someone quitting
tennis after an injury is considered "leaving the program prematurely."
Because the typical sports page reader would not suspect that an injury
would be so classified, that means the typical sports page reader ends
up with a wrong impression.

But, it is "accurate."

17 is certainly a bad statistic but the reasons do matter.  --  PTWahoo14   Thu Jun 21 2012 2:17:03 PM
Problem is people scan the numbers. Need to keep the dashboard clean. **  --  HooSaid   Thu Jun 21 2012 6:37:54 PM
