Puget seemed like a stack playing 5 last year. He crushed Hanfmann in
this event and was steamrolling him in the NCAA team semis when the
match was stopped last year. Puget also beat Gomez and his
teammate Giron in this event.

I keep thinking how USC was literally within a point or 2 of losing to
UCLA in the semis last year. It seems like that no matter how good a
team anyone has, it is still usually a fine line between winning it all and
not. UCLA had chances to win the deciding doubles match that was
decided 8-6 in a TB. And, Novikov had chances too before losing to
Nguyen 7-6 in the 3rd. If UCLA wins either one of those matches (#2
doubles or at #3 singles), they win the match, because they were
winning #5 and #6 with Mrktchian, who also pushed Sarmiento (5 & 4)
this weekend.
