block technique, transition and plateau phase of his top-end are all plus
factors in his favor.
For Tyson Gay to beat Bolt at 100m, three things would have to happen
now, given Bolt's confidence:
1) Gay would have to be completely healthy
2) Bolt would have to make numerous technical mistakes on his start
and build phase in his 100m
3) Gay would have to run the perfect race
The 200m is an even different animal due to Bolt's stride length.
Our only hope of beating this guy is to hope he gets arrogant and
Jamaica track and field get silly and allow us to cut into his invincibility
by putting him in the 400m and mile relay.
Now, if Bolt goes to London in 2012 and pulls of the 100m, 200m and
400m triple? And helps Jamaica defend its 4x100m title AND they
upset us in the 4x400 relay with Bolt going up against our anchor
(Merritt or Wariner?) He'd be the greatest and most complete sprinter
in history, bottom line. A track athlete that can pull down golds in all
three sprints and both relays? It would be equivalent to what Phelps did
in my eyes. Just sick.
