The same sort of situation occurred at the NCAA tournament at JPJ last
year. I felt obligated to apologize to Oklahoma fans who had made the journey here on the behalf of UVa fans for the behavior of JMU fans and their pep band for booing the Oklahoma team and showing insulting behavior to Oklahoma throughout the game. When visiting teams are introduced at JPJ we applaud their starters, albeit not with the same vigor we applaud the UVa starters. The other team has worked hard, just as our team has worked hard. They deserve our respect. THAT is sportsmanship -- something that apparently they know nothing about at JMU. (That sort of booing is also entirely contrary to Virginian hospitality.) |
