Image: Brian O'ConnorThe Virginia Cavaliers improved to 8-4 in the ACC and took over the top spot in the Coastal Division with a three game sweep of the Virginia Tech Hokies in Blacksburg last weekend. UVa owns the head-to-head tiebreaker with North Carolina, which also failed to sweep in Blacksburg. Virginia coach Brian O'Connor says that one game edge in the respective series against the Hokies could be huge at season's end. Full Article

The Cavaliers improved to 22-5 (5-4 ACC) on the season with a series victory over the Miami Hurricanes (15-12, 3-6 ACC). The Cavaliers claimed the first two wins of the series with a 4-1 Friday triumph and a 3-0 Saturday shutout, while the Hurricanes secured the final game. Sunday's 4-2 loss was Virginia's third series finale defeat in three attempts this season. The Hoos lost 7-6 to Wake Forest and 9-4 to North Carolina earlier in the year. Full Article

Seventh-ranked Virginia took 2 of 3 against the Heels and the series win provides the Cavaliers with the tie-breaker edge against their Coastal Division rivals when ACC Tournament seeding time rolls around. With the weekend victories and Tuesday night's 11-1 spanking of Richmond on the road, Virginia improves to 20-4 (3-3 ACC). Can Greg Miclat and the Hoos keep it going against Miami? Full Article
Around the Horn: Big UNC Series Looms

The Cavaliers now turn their attention to No. 1 North Carolina in a critical three game series in Chapel Hill that may not only determine the Coastal Division Champion but the league champion as well. A result of the Cavaliers' on-field achievements has been tremendous off-field success in the living room of prospective recruits. During Brian O'Connor's tenure, the Cavaliers have consistently recruited some of the top classes in the nation. With the announcement of 12 commitments in the early signing period for the 2008 season, O'Connor, recruiting coordinator Kevin McMullan, and pitching coach Karl Kuhn have put together a recruiting class which is expected be ranked among the top classes in the nation. The sophomore shortstop streaking down the baseline is like the Road Runner jetting down the desert and the competition so far this year has been as clueless to stop him as Wile E. Coyote. Image: Sean DoolittleBrandon Marsh went 2 for 3, including a two-run home run and Sean Doolittle notched his 15th career victory as the Cavaliers opened the 2007 season with a 10-3 triumph over Elon. Doolittle allowed three runs on four hits and fanned six in five innings of work in the opening game of the Springmaid Beach Resort Tournament at Coastal Carolina. Andrew Carraway worked three innings of no-hit, shutout relief, while freshman Jeff Lorick pitched a scoreless ninth inning in his first career appearance. Full Article

Looking Back at UVa's Baseball Season

The Cavaliers completed the most successful season in school history by winning the most games ever for the program (47) and the most ACC regular season wins ever (21). Virginia (47-14) ace and ACC Player of the Year Sean Doolittle retired the first six batters he faced, but gave up a grand slam that was the key hit in UVa's 8-2 loss to South Carolina on Saturday.
