UVa Recruit Harrell Set for Season Opener

The last time K.T. Harrell stepped onto a basketball court for a high school varsity game, he was just a sophomore. He was forced to sit out last season at Brewbaker Magnet (Montgomery, AL) because of transfer rules, so the only organized basketball action he has seen has come in AAU. The 6-4, 205-pound senior guard impressed on the 2009 AAU circuit, earning a handful of Division 1 offers and drawing rave reviews from high school basketball recruiting analysts, but now he looks forward to showing off his talents for Brewbaker.

UVa Men's Basketball Signs Five

Virginia men's head basketball coach Tony Bennett has announced the signing of five players to national letters of intent with the Cavaliers during the early signing period. The players are 6-4 guard K.T. Harrell of Montgomery, Ala.; 6-6 guard Joe Harris from Chelan, Wash.; 6-9 forward James Johnson of Wildomar, Calif.; 6-7 wing Akil Mitchell of Charlotte, N.C.; and 6-8 forward Will Regan of Williamsville, N.Y.

James Johnson officially became a member of Virginia's 2010 recruiting class yesterday, when he signed and faxed a letter of intent to head coach Tony Bennett. Johnson, a forward/center rated a 4-star prospect by Rivals.com and Scout.com, is excited to be a Cavalier.

Improved Harris Ready for Senior Season

Official Visit a Hit for Regan

6-8, 220-pound Will Regan, a standout senior forward out of Nichols School in Buffalo (N.Y.), didn't need confirmation on his college choice, but that's what he got when he took his official visit to the University of Virginia earlier this month. Regan committed to UVa in June, picking the Cavaliers over offers from Arizona State, Maryland, Providence and Stanford.

Collinsworth Down to Four, Starts to Set Visits

While coaching at Washington State, University of Virginia head coach Tony Bennett recruited Provo (UT) forward Chris Collinsworth. Coach Bennett recruited hard but missed out on the 6-9 forward, who eventually signed with BYU. It was then that Coach Bennett noticed Chris' younger brother Kyle, a 2010 class prospect who recently narrowed his list to four schools. BYU and Virginia make up two of the four schools on the 6-6, 205-pound Provo guard's final list.

Top 2011 Target: C Marshall Plumlee

The University of Virginia was in serious pursuit of Christ School (Arden, N.C.) forward Miles Plumlee in the 2008 recruiting class. Plumlee ultimately headed to Duke and will be followed by his brother, Mason, who signed with the Blue Devils in the 2009 class. Virginia, with new head coach Tony Bennett, is now in pursuit of the youngest Plumlee brother, Marshall. A 6-11 center, Marshall Plumlee is entering his third year at Christ School and is already a highly sought after recruit.

The summer basketball season is now over for Elsinore (Wildomar, CA) forward James Johnson, who will now turn his attention to the recruiting front. The 6-9, 225-pound rising senior has only taken unofficial visits to Maryland and Virginia, but that will change this month with scheduled trips to Arizona State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
