4-Star Guard Talks Recruiting

Monsignor Bonner (Drexel Hill, PA) star guard Jeff Jones has made unofficial visits in recent weeks to Charlotte, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, respectively. The 6-4 standout hopes to make more trips in the near future as he aims to narrow his list of schools by the end of August. Full Article

The Huntington (W.V.) star earned MVP honors at this past weekend's NBPA Top 100 camp – which boasted the top 100 players across the country – and could see his stock go even higher as a result. UVa head coach Dave Leitao landed a coveted 2007 recruiting class target when, last weekend, 6-6, 210-pound small forward recruit Eric Wallace verbally committed to Virginia. On Monday, UVa will sign more size and athleticism to the program. 6-9, 220-pound McKinley (Baton Rouge, LA) standout PF/C Jerome Meyinsse, who returned home today from an official visit to UVa, has committed to Dave Leitao and company and plans to sign his letter of intent on Monday during a press conference at his school. As always, the Boo Williams squad was one of the most talented teams in the Southern Invitational field and, although they fell to eventual champ Chicago Jaguars in the semifinals, they promise to be a force in the AAU tourneys to come. Rain (Mobile, AL) prospect Johnnie Lett will head to Hargrave Military Academy before heading to the University of Virginia. Zeglinski Produces Wherever Needed

Sam Zeglinski has certainly shown his scoring capabilities for William Penn Charter School (Philadelphia, PA). After averaging 18 points-per-game in his sophomore season, he averaged about 19 points per game this season and went over the 1,000-point mark for his career. Zeglinski is needed more as a scoring point guard for his high school team, but his coach feels you’ll see a different type of player at the University of Virginia. Full Article
Q&A Session: UVa Signee Jamil Tucker

Image: Jamil TuckerIn his senior season, 6-9, 220-pound Jamil Tucker averaged 22 points, 10 rebounds and three assists for West Side High School in Gary, Indiana. Rated the #77 overall prospect in the country by Scout.com and a first-team all-area performer in his senior season, Tucker, who is by all accounts a gifted outside shooter, should add some offense to UVa’s 2006-2007 squad. But he hopes to add a lot more to UVa’s squad and looks forward to the opportunity of playing under head coach Dave Leitao. Full Article
Harris Led Brewster with Toughness, Versatility

The University of Virginia signee averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds per contest and stepped up big in some of the team’s biggest games. He did all of that while playing through nagging injuries. Rain (Mobile, AL) big man, a finalist for 5A state player of the year honors as a junior last year, continued his solid play in his final season - averaging 15.6 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks per game while leading his team to a 17-8 record. Paulding County High School (Dallas, GA) forward Andy Ogide has had a terrific season so far as he has helped his team compile a 20-9 record and has been the team's leading scorer. This week, he and his teammates will take on Clark Central HS in the first round of the Georgia 4A State Playoffs. Slamfest 2006 Begins Tonight!

Image: Slam FestTonight marks the beginning of Slamfest 2006. Many talented teams and, of course, top players will be on hand in Richmond, Virginia, this weekend. Tournament organizer Thomas Leachman expects many college coaches, including UVa’s own Dave Leitao, to be on hand for some of the weekend’s game. Teams scheduled to participate include national power St. Benedict’s Prep as well as top state of Virginia squads such as Bethel, Blue Ridge, Collegiate, Hargrave Military Academy and Meadowbrook. Ogide Officially Signs

Andy Ogide, a 6-8, 215-pound forward out of Paulding County High School in Dallas, Georgia, sent in his letter of intent this week and is now officially a part of the 2006 UVa recruiting class. "I turned it in [on Wednesday," said Ogide, who actually signed the letter of intent while on his official visit to Virginia last month. He is the fourth player to sign in Virginia's 2006 men's basketball recruiting class. Full Article
