D-Line Begins Rebuilding

The Cavalier defense lost three starters on the defensive line from last season's bowl team. All three players - tackles Nick Jenkins and Matt Conrath as well as defensive end Cam Johnson - had become three-year mainstays for the defense, leaving the Hoos with a lot of new faces in contention for playing time this season and beyond. In fact, outside of Jake Snyder, Billy Schautz, and Will Hill, the rest of the players looking to earn snaps have received limited action thus far in their careers.

2014 OL Moss Talks Football, Offers

Cavs Show High Interest In NC LB/RB

Tristan Mumford is one of Statesville High School's (N.C.) most versatile performers. The 6'1.5", 230-pound prospect is expected to play linebacker, running back, tight end, and even some quarterback as a senior in 2012. Mumford, a junior, has produced no matter where he lines up. Last season, he played well when called upon to replace star signal caller Carlis Parker, who went down with an injury early in the year.

Corney Talks Decision, Future

Senior Trent Corney has been all but committed to the University of Virginia since scoring a scholarship offer from head coach mike London almost two months ago. The standout athlete, a product of Thousand Island Secondary School in Brockville, Ontario, Canada, has now made it official by verbally committing to the UVa coaches.

Strategy Session: Spring Big Picture Update

Spring Practice Update: Rain Doesn't Slow Down 'Hoos in Fairfax

Spring Practice Update: Hoos Put on Pads

Spring football is well underway in Charlottesville as the Virginia football team wrapped up day three of practice on Friday morning. The Cavs were in shoulder pads for the first time. With the shoulder pads came more physical drills. The spring has the same rules as the fall regarding full pads. Tomorrow's practice at Fairfax High School will be the fourth practice of the spring, and the Hoos will be in full pads.

Spring Practice Report: London Wants Better Special Teams

Last November in my post-game grade report following the Virginia Tech loss I wrote, "Throughout the season I have focused on different aspects of special teams in the "Needs Work" segment. Saturday the season-long inconsistency and, candidly, poor play was on display across all five phases of special teams. In fairness, all three operations delivered sub-par performances against the Hokies, but special teams consistently has underperformed all year."

Spring Practice Report: New Faces at Several Positions

The Cavaliers continued spring camp with a focus on skill and mechanical development Wednesday morning. The Hoos will be in helmets only until Friday when they move into practice in shoulder pads, so most of Wednesday was built around improving fundamentals and building stamina.

Hoos Return To Spring Practice

The Cavaliers hit the field at the McCue Center bright and early on Monday morning at 8 a.m. Head coach, Mike London says that the eight o'clock practices help the team get an early start to the day, and accommodate their class schedules. QB Brendan Marshall Is A Hoo

Brendan "Whitey" Marshall has been thinking seriously about committing to the University of Virginia since attending the 'Hoos February 25 Junior Day event. In fact, before heading home from the junior day, he expressed to assistant coaches Bill Lazor and Anthony Poindexter that he was leaning heavily towards becoming a Cavalier. Today, the 6'5", 210-pound junior signal caller made it official and accepted Virginia's scholarship offer.

Olanrewaju Has UVa Offer, Plans Visit

The 2011 season was Sadiq Olanrewaju's first at the Salisbury School (Salisbury, CT). The Rockville (MD) native arrived at Salisbury School having never played on the offensive line, but he excelled at left tackle this past season and has become a major FBS recruit. Salisbury's second-year head coach Chris Phelps saw Olanrewaju's potential on offense, and the junior delivered.

The goal is to build on the 8-5 record and appearance in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. 2013 Profile: All-State Lineman Donta Wilkins

Donta Wilkins' standout 2011 season performance was recognized by the Virginia High School Coaches Association, which selected the 6'3", 300-pound junior offensive lineman/defensive tackle to its first-team all-state defense and second-team all-state offense squads. You want to be out there. You want to play. You want to share that moment with those guys you went through camp with. Unfortunately, it didn't come to pass this year. But I was at the game. Marshall Is High On The Hoos

Good Counsel (Olney, MD) quarterback Brendan "Whitey" Marshall has recently taken two ACC recruiting visits, including one to Boston College and one to UVa. The 6'5", 210-pound junior was in Charlottesville for the football program's February 25 junior day, the first time he has been to UVa since taking in the home game against Virginia Tech last fall. There is no question that the talented signal caller likes what he has seen in Virginia so far.

Prince Set For Another Visit

Patrick Henry (Roanoke, VA) star David Prince attended Virginia Tech's junior day event on February 18, and he plans to hit the recruiting trail again tomorrow when he travels to the University of Virginia. The 6'1", 175-pound junior had been to both Virginia and Virginia Tech before this latest round of visits, checking out games at each last fall. These are the only two programs he has explored closely so far.
