OL Smith Set To Visit UVa For First Time

When 6'6", 285-pound offensive tackle prospect Eric Smith pledged to the University of Virginia on December 20, he did so without having seen the grounds. Today, the Columbia (Decatur, GA) senior standout is en route to Charlottesville, one of 19 committed prospects Mike London and company are hosting on a huge official visit weekend.

LB/FB Wingo-Reeves Heading To UVa

Monacan (Richmond, VA) senior Connor Wingo-Reeves has de-committed from Temple and will instead sign with the University of Virginia. The 6'3", 220-pound linebacker/fullback prospect made the switch early Sunday afternoon, shortly after landing an offer from the Cavaliers.

The state of Virginia's class of 2013 is a good, solid group highlighted by skill position athletes. In this, my final ranking of the top 40 high school seniors in the Commonwealth, 36 have committed to play on the major FBS level. This group also features 10 players selected to play in either the Under Armour All-American Bowl or U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
This is a tremendous quarterback class with four prospects in my top 20. Defensive back and linebacker are strong positions, and there are three running backs in my top 20 as well. A defensive end, though, gets the nod as the top overall player in the state.

Checking In On WR Keeon Johnson

Despite missing several games because of a turf toe injury, University of Virginia-bound wide receiver Keeon Johnson turned in a quality senior season, helping A.L. Brown (Kannapolis, N.C.) to a 10-4 overall record and earning a trip to the annual North Carolina/South Carolina Shrine Bowl.

In-State Junior OL Scores Fourth Offer

Pittsburgh recently became the fourth major FBS program to offer a scholarship to Fort Chiswell (Max Meadows, VA) junior offensive lineman Coleman Thomas. Virginia, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia have also offered the 6'5", 295-pound prospect, who has started at center on the varsity level for three years.

Levrone Talks Health, UVa

2012 was supposed to be Andre Levrone's breakout season. It turned out to be one of frustration for the 6'2" senior wide receiver. The Good Counsel (Olney, MD) product was disappointed on an individual level -- certainly not with his team, which captured the WCAC championship -- but disappointment is turning to excitement as he eyes his freshman year at the University of Virginia.

Cook Schedules Two Official Visits

Prior to UVa announcing the dismissal of defensive coordinator Jim Reid and three other assistant coaches on December 2, Fork Union (VA) senior Malcolm Cook was solid in the verbal commitment he had given Cavaliers head coach Mike London in July. The 6'1", 200-pound safety prospect says he remains committed to the Cavaliers but admits he won't make a firm, final decision on his college future until "a few days before [February 6 National Signing Day]."

Greg's Grades And Trends: Virginia Tech

Al Groh once told me that the writer the players hated most was the game grade guy. Lucky me! That likely will continue again this week since the news and the grades are not very good - especially for the offense. In what is becoming a habitual "offense" (pun intended), Virginia's defense does what it needs to do to win, special teams remained average while continuing to allow sudden change plays, and the offense simply can't get the job done.

Kiser Reaffirms Commitment To UVa

Gilman (Baltimore, MD) star senior Micah Kiser verbally committed to the University of Virginia on April 30, choosing the Hoos over many other major college suitors including Auburn, Florida, Maryland, Oklahoma, Penn State, South Carolina, Stanford, and Virginia Tech. Recently, though, the 6'2", 215-pound linebacker expressed an interest in taking a visit to the University of Maryland. Cavalier assistants Shawn Moore and Anthony Poindexter traveled to Kiser's home this Tuesday to try and solidify the coveted prospect's original decision.
The duo appears to have been successful.

DaeSean Hamilton Schedules Two Visits

DaeSean Hamilton, one of the top uncommitted high school senior prospects in the state of Virginia, wants to have made his college choice by Christmas. The Mountain View (Stafford, VA) wide receiver/defensive back says he has "no idea" which school he will choose, making upcoming official visits extremely important.
