Game Preview 2012: Penn State

Everything that happened in the last year at Penn State could be labeled shocking. So regardless of one's opinion on the NCAA sanctions, it's clear that the current coaches and players for the Nittany Lions face a challenging 2012 season. When asked how he thinks he would deal with the situation if he were coaching at Penn State, UVa coach Mike London said the only thing he could think of is to focus on football. So with that in mind, the game preview's goal is to focus on the game.

Gilman Vs Good Counsel Recap

The top two high school football programs in the state of Maryland squared off against each other last Friday night. The Good Counsel Falcons (Olney), featuring UVa-bound QB Brendan Marshall and CB/WR Kirk Garner, hosted Micah Kiser-led Gilman (Baltimore) with both teams looking to rebound after losing in the ESPN High School Kick-off the previous week. The hard-fought contest needed an overtime period to be decided, and the Falcons came out on top with a 20-19 win.

Shepherd, Jennings Make Impact

Virginia's offense featured a ton of solid performances in the season opener against Richmond on Saturday. That tends to happen with 545 yards of offense to go around. Virginia's football team got its season off to a great start by rolling to a 43-19 victory against Richmond on Saturday. The Cavaliers cranked out 545 yards of total offense and allowed just 28 yards rushing against the Spiders in the win. Receivers like Tim Smith and Darius Jennings had big days as Michael Rocco threw for 311 yards, while youngsters like Drequan Hoskey, Anthony Harris, and Henry Coley led the team in tackles. Cavaliers Stomp Spiders

Last year, I was able to focus on a general theme for each tailgating article. Some themes were pretty easy (Maryland and Blue Crab for example), while others were quite challenging (Indiana??). This year, I'm going to share some of my favorite recipes that are pretty easy to make and will please a crowd. And thank goodness, because, even though I was born and raised there, I can't think of anything that is quintessential "Richmond." So this week's recipe is one of my favorite all-time tailgating foods. It's incredibly tasty and pretty simple: oven fried chicken.

Rocco Named Starter
