Hermitage OL/DL Pledges To Virginia

The University of Virginia football program has closed out the month of June with another 2012 class verbal commitment. Today, Hermitage (Richmond, VA) offensive lineman/defensive tackle Andre Miles-Redmond became the latest rising high school senior to commit, picking the Hoos over offers from N.C. State and Virginia Tech.

Eastport-South Manor (Manorville, N.Y.) product Sean Karl is the latest rising high school senior to verbally commit to the University of Virginia, making his decision one week after touring Charlottesville on an unofficial visit. Michael Mooney's first experience at UVa came last summer, when he participated in a one-day camp. The Malvern Prep (Chester Springs, PA) offensive line prospect returned to Charlottesville last fall to see the Florida State home football game, which he was invited by the Virginia coaches to attend. The second visit, in particular, solidified UVa as a school of interest for the Pennsylvania prep standout.

Strategy Session: Elite Day Targets

The University of Virginia football program hosted its Elite Prospect Day last Sunday. Athletic defensive prospect Max Valles was the only commit on the day, but from what we've gathered in speaking with sources and directly with prospects, the event was a success and not just with the 2012 class. UVa hosted some potential big-time 2013 class recruits as well.
The focus begins on 2012 with updates from Kaiwan Lewis, Andre Miles-Redmond, Kye Morgan and Nigel Williams.

2013 Profile: QB Christian Hackenberg

Fork Union Military Academy (VA) prep head coach Micky Sullivan said quarterback Christian Hackenberg "grew up a lot" over the course of the 2010 season, Hackenberg's first at FUMA. The Fluvanna native, a rising junior, certainly came through when it mattered most. He threw for 123 yards and a score in FUMA's VISAA state semifinal win over top seeded Liberty Christian Academy, and followed with 168 yards and a touchdown in the VISAA championship game against Collegiate. Hackenberg did not throw an interception in either contest, helping the Blue Devils to its first state championship since 2002.

In what has become a yearly recruiting event, the Elite Prospect Day in June has been successful for the University of Virginia football program. Last year, Coach London scored big with commitments from defensive ends Vince Croce and Marco Jones. This year's event takes place on Sunday, June 5, and we have a list of those prospects we have confirmed and those who we hear may be in attendance. The list includes in-state and out-of-state prospects, including a handful of targets from the state of New Jersey. It also includes an in-state rising junior seemingly on his way to being a big-time recruit.

Profile: UVa's Latest Commit, Ryan Doull

Ryan Doull's athletic career began with hockey, and he picked up lacrosse soon after. He enjoyed success in both sports before taking to the gridiron over four years ago.
"I played the highest level of [hockey and lacrosse], and I guess those skills carried over to football," said Doull, a native of Kanata, Ontario, Canada. In lacrosse, he helped Team Ontario to a National Championship in 2008. He also played Double A and Triple A hockey.
