This season, sophomore midfielder Ari Dimas has stepped into a larger role with the departure of Jonathan Villanueva. Virginia Soccer Off To Strong Start
October 9, 2008
When Virginia men's soccer coach George Gelnovatch says this year's team is young, he isn't exaggerating for effect. No, not at all. Gelnovatch is starting five freshmen for the first time since ... well, ever. And until Chris Agorsor tore his ACL recently, the Cavaliers were starting six freshmen. With that information alone, one might wonder if Virginia's typical success will be threatened this year. But according to Gelnovatch, what the Cavaliers (6-3-0, 3-0-0 ACC) lack in experience, they make up for in talent.

2005 Preview: Young Cavs Going for ACC Three-peat
September 2, 2005
Of the 28 players on the Virginia men's soccer roster, exactly two are seniors. Yes, it's another young team for George Gelnovatch, but by now he's used to it. In his 10th year as UVa's head coach, Gelnovatch has watched many of his top players turn pro before reaching their senior year. The difference is he's starting to find greater success despite the turnover.
With similarly youthful squads, Gelnovatch has led the Cavaliers to consecutive ACC championships. He believes this team could make it three in a row, as well as contend for a national title, regardless of its inexperience.

2003 Men's Soccer: A Difficult Path, but the Same Destination
November 21, 2003
Entering the ACC Tournament with a losing record did not sit well with Virginia men’s soccer coach George Gelnovatch. Knowing that his team was in danger of missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 23 years, Gelnovatch knew the Cavaliers needed to play great defense and have a few breaks go the Cavaliers way.
Gelnovatch’s squad did just that.
The UVa defense allowed just one total goal in its three ACC Tournament matches, and the Cavaliers won a pair of matches in the penalty kick phase to edge Clemson and Maryland. With the second penalty kick win, over the Terrapins, Virginia was awarded the ACC Tournament title and was automatically given the league’s NCAA Tournament postseason berth.
