Miles Gooch
Quarterback LOI Status: Signed |
Miles Gooch only had one season to show off his throwing talents on the high school level, as he played in a run-oriented offensive attack before transferring to Towers for his senior year. He took advantage of the opportunity, completing about 57-percent of his passes for over 2,200 yards and 19 touchdowns with only nine interceptions. He added 500 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.
Gooch's athleticism is appealing at other positions, such as wide receiver. He is worth a hard look at quarterback first, though, to see if he can build off a breakout senior year.

Mike Rocco
Quarterback LOI Status: Signed |
A 4-year starter, Rocco completed 323 of 493 passes for 5,780 yards with 75 touchdowns to only 17 interceptions. LCA went 41-4 over the course of Rocco's 4-year career, though Rocco missed five games due to injury last season. The son of LCA head coach Frank Rocco, Mike has great intangibles and experience. He also played safety at LCA and could well end up as a safety or linebacker if quarterback doesn't work out.

Michael Strauss
Quarterback LOI Status: Signed |
Strauss started for two seasons, as a junior and senior, under head coach Earl Sims, who played linebacker at UVa. He enjoyed a breakout junior season, completing 195 of 298 passes for 3,193 yards and 32 touchdowns. As a senior, Strauss passed for 2,714 yards and 28 touchdowns. The 2009 Class 2A first-team all-state selection enrolled at Virginia in January, the second early enrollee in as many classes for the Cavaliers.

Kevin Parks, Jr.
Running Back LOI Status: Signed |
Kevin Parks Jr. rushed for 10, 895 yards as a 4-year starter on the varsity level, becoming North Carolina High School football's all-time leading rusher. He also helped West Rowan the Class 3-A state championship in 2008 and 2009. As a senior, KP set another North Carolina high school record with 3,794 yards rushing. He scored 59 touchdowns on the year. Described as a "lunch pail" type of player by West Rowan coach Scott Young, Parks has tremendous character and work ethic.

E.J. Scott
Wide Receiver LOI Status: Signed |
One of Virginia's most highly recruited prospects in the class, E.J. Scott was a second-team all-WCAC performer at wide receiver each of his past two seasons. He averaged 22 yards per catch over the course of the past two seasons. A terrific overall athlete, Scott can run the 40 in under 4.5 seconds, the pro-shuttle in under 4.3 seconds and boasts a 35-inch vertical leap. He projects initially as a wide receiver, though cornerback is a possibility.

Khalek Shepherd
Wide Receiver LOI Status: Signed |
Shepherd, the son of former NFL receiver Leslie Shepherd, is a versatile player. He primarily played running back at Gwynn Park and rushed for 1,389 yards and 21 touchdowns yards his senior year. He rushed for over 900 yards and 14 scores as a junior. Shifty and quick, he could line up in the backfield or at slot receiver for the Cavaliers. He has potential as a kick and/or punt returner as well. He's listed as a defensive back, so the staff must also like his potential as a cornerback.

Zachary Swanson
Tight End LOI Status: Signed |
A late addition to the class, Swanson plays a position of need in London's pro-style offense. He has ability as a receiver, but blocking is a requirement from the tight end position at Katy High School. He has a good frame and is an intelligent and "aggressive player" according to his high school coach, Gary Joseph. Ideally, Swanson would be able to red-shirt to add bulk and strength, but he'll only be the fourth tight end on scholarship in 2010, so there is a chance he may have to step in early. His high school experience could help in that regard.

Conner Davis
Offensive Line LOI Status: Signed |
Deep Run's Conner Davis is another highly recruited prospect in this class, as he chose the Cavaliers over a handful of FBS offers including in-state rival Virginia Tech. Davis is an intelligent player who'll have to add size and strength at UVa, but he has the tools to eventually be a starter at guard or tackle.

Stephen Lawe
Offensive Line LOI Status: Signed |
Maury's Stephen Lawe was offered by Virginia the first week coach London took over, a good sign of how London felt about his talents. Lawe started his junior and senior seasons at offensive tackle and started at defensive tackle as well as a senior. He has potential on both sides of the ball, but the initial projection is at offensive tackle, where he allowed only one sack and had 24 pancake blocks as a senior.

Morgan Moses
Offensive Line LOI Status: Signed |
Morgan Moses brings his tremendous potential to the UVa offensive line. He has the potential and ability to be a three or 4-year starter at offensive tackle. He blends big-time size and athleticism, earning a spot in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl out of Meadowbrook High School in Richmond. After signing with the Cavs in 2009, Moses attended Fork Union and played for coach John Shuman's postgraduate as he worked towards qualifying.

Cody Wallace
Offensive Line LOI Status: Signed |
Cody Wallace, who signed with Virginia in 2009 but enrolled at Fork Union for a postgraduate season, impressed Fork Union head coach John Shuman as an interior lineman. Wallace has potential as a guard or center and a year at prep school should only help his development.

Chris Brathwaite
Defensive End LOI Status: Signed |
Brathwaite doesn't have great size, a reason why he wasn't more highly recruited, but he has good strength and quickness and could be a very good defensive end. He showed off his quickness at Virginia's camp in 2009, posting a pro-shuttle time of 4.4 seconds. He also has great character and work ethic, as he made the effort to travel about two hours to and from high school each day. As a senior, Brathwaite racked up 24 tackles for loss and six sacks, earning the Vincent O'Connor Award given annually to the CHSFL's top defensive player.

Ryan Cobb
Linebacker LOI Status: Signed |
A 4-year player for one of the country's top high school football programs, Ryan Cobb is a versatile athlete with a great work ethic. In an H-back type of role, he hauled in 30 receptions for 505 yards and eight scores his senior year. He also had 45 tackles and two interceptions. Cobb has potential as a fullback, H-Back or linebacker at Virginia.

Henry Coley
Linebacker LOI Status: Signed |
Coley has experience at middle and outside linebacker, positions he could play at UVa. Initially, he projects to play on the outside in London's 4-3 defensive set. Coley is smart, strong and tough. His main concern in terms of transitioning to the next level may be speed, but he makes up for the lack of blazing speed with smarts and football savvy. As a senior, he racked up over 120 tackles, earning first-team all-state and first-team all-Tidewater honors.

Rijo Walker
Cornerback LOI Status: Signed |
Rijo Walker isn't the biggest cornerback on the block, but he was nothing but productive in his high school career. He amassed 20 interceptions in three seasons on the varsity level, including 11 his sophomore year, four his junior year and five last season. Walker has to add strength to battle against receivers on the next level, but he has proven to be a playmaker. He has potential in the return game, performing well as a kick and punt returner for head coach Jeff Nelson in 2009.

Pablo Alvarez
Safety LOI Status: Signed |
A serious contender for the state championship track title in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles events, 6-3, 190-pound Pablo Alvarez may be the best athlete in the class. At the very least, he's one of the best. He primarily played cornerback at Belen, but he did play some safety in his senior season and has seen action at wide receiver in spots. Alvarez had three interceptions as a senior, helping Belen to the state 3A championship game. He is listed as a safety/wide receiver and, because of his size and speed and athletic ability, has potential at either spot.

Jake McGee
Athlete LOI Status: Signed |
Of all of the incoming 2010 quarterback recruits, Collegiate star Jake McGee seems most likely to switch positions early on in his career. If he does move, tight end is the likely spot. At 6-5, 210 pounds, he has the frame of a prototypical pro-style tight end. A good athlete, he rushed for 576 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior. He threw for over 3,000 yards and 34 touchdowns, guiding Collegiate to its second consecutive VIS state championship. McGee will get a chance at quarterback, but don't be surprised to see his versatility used elsewhere.
