Syracuse To Arrive In 2013
Syracuse will join the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2013. Click here for the official news release from the Big East.
The agreeement for Syracuse's departure includes a $7.5 million payment from the Orange to the Big East. Dr. Daryl Gross, Director of Athletics for Syracuse said in the release: "We look forward to the new academic and athletic partnerships and the extraordinary competitive opportunities that membership in the ACC offers. We are excited about both our final season in the Big East and our long-term future with the ACC."
SU will join the ACC officially on July 1, 2013. Read the ACC's take here. ACC Commissioner John Swofford said this about the announcement: "The ACC looks forward to the arrival of Syracuse as a playing member on July 1, 2013. Syracuse will be an outstanding addition to the ACC. We've been preparing to welcome them into our membership and I'm pleased that Syracuse and the Big East were able to come to an agreement. As a league, we continue to be excited about our future."
The ACC voted to accept Syracuse and Pittsburgh into the ACC in September of 2011. Read that news release here. The impending expansion of the ACC, of course, led to some schedule changes as well. ACC members now will play 9 conference football games and 18 conference basketball games. Read about other scheduling decisions here.
This Week In Recruiting With Chris Horne
UVa will hold its final one-day camp of the summer on Saturday, July 21. TheSabre plans to be on hand for the event, which primarily features top rising juniors and rising seniors, and as always we will be here for the latest breaking news and recruiting updates.
Beginning on July 22 and ending on July 25, UVa will host a team camp, which will mark the conclusion of the Cavaliers' summer camps.
Also this week, we'll focus on class of 2014 football recruits. With class of 2013 recruiting almost complete, we'll start to introduce you to more and more of those rising high school juniors the Virginia staff is focused on so far.
Stay tuned this week for a "Catching Up" feature with UVa offensive tackle commit Sadiq Olanrewaju. I will have the latest on the 6'6", 275-pounder, who was the second rising high school senior to commit to the Hoos. I'll check in with the talented prospect for the latest on his offseason, a look ahead to his senior season, and his thoughts on UVa's class of 2013.
In addition to football recruiting, we plan to hit the basketball recruiting beat for the latest recruiting news there. As most know by now, UVa has a commitment from 4-star point guard Devon Hall, who is now a rising high school senior. The Cavaliers currently have one more spot available in this class.

3 Hoos On Watch Lists
From VirginiaSports.com Offical News Releases
Two offensive linemen and a linebacker for Virginia have landed on preseason watch lists for college football awards.
Virginia senior offensive tackle Oday Aboushi and junior offensive tackle Morgan Moses have been named to the prestigious 2012 Outland Trophy Watch List, an award that goes to the best interior lineman in college football, as selected by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA). They are the first Cavaliers to be named to the Outland Trophy Watch List since offensive tackle Eugene Monroe prior to the 2008 campaign.
Virginia senior linebacker Steve Greer has been named to the 2012 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List, announced Thursday by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA). One of the more than 84 players on the list most likely will receive the trophy, which is awarded annually to the nation's best defensive player by the FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club. With Greer's name on the 2012 list, UVa has placed a Cavalier on the Nagurski Watch List in every season since 2004.

This Week In Recruiting: Basketball class wraps up ...
Last week, I wrote about the possibility of Virginia's 2010 recruiting class perhaps wrapping up shortly. Well, it did happen, only the final recruit is not named Kyle Collinsworth or Josh Henderson. Instead, Akil Mitchell, a 6-7, 210-pound forward out of Charlotte Christian (Charlotte, N.C.), rounds out Tony Bennett's 2010 class.
Although he wasn't heavily recruited by many major Division 1 programs, Mitchell is a player the Virginia staff has monitored closely throughout the spring and summer. The heavy interest began after Mitchell turned in a good showing at Virginia's Elite Camp in June. The Cavaliers would check up on Mitchell several more times before deciding to extend an official offer last Tuesday. Mitchell, who has always wanted to play in the ACC, committed a day later.
An outstanding student athlete, Mitchell carries a 4.0 GPA in the classroom. On the basketball court, he has ability on the perimeter and in the post. His coach, Shonn Brown, believes the standout senior's best basketball is yet to come. Mitchell describes himself as a late bloomer and is anxious to prove his worth in his senior season and beyond.
"You see a kid once and he's great. That's good, but you want to see him multiple times," said Brown, who coached the Curry brothers - Stephen and Seth - at Charlotte Christian. "Coach Bennett and his staff have seen him in a 4-man workout setting, an open gym setting and at their camp. They wanted to see him in all phases. They came down at various times to watch him. Coach Bennett has a good grasp of what he wants and he really took his time. He likes Akil's progression."
For more on Virginia's fifth 2010 class recruit, be sure to check out the EDGE articles written last week. And we'll continue to follow up with Akil when the November Signing Period arrives and more during his senior season.
